A Day on the Set of JellyFish: Dakar Apprentices Step Into Real Production
On Sunday, March 15, Dakar Foundation was back in action on the set of JellyFish, supporting actor, producer, and creator Chris Jai Alex inside his home production facility as he pushed forward on the pilot shoot for his upcoming episodic series.
Dakar supplied below-the-line production support for the day, with apprentices contributing as key grip, audio/ADT support, production assistants, and social media managers. This marked Dakar’s fourth production experience with Chris Jai Alex, and once again, it gave our cohort a front-row seat to the full creative and technical journey of bringing a scripted vision to life.
From ideation to setup, from active production to wrap, our apprentices were able to witness and participate in the technical workflow that turns concept into content. More than just getting hands-on with professional gear and on-set technology, they experienced the pace, coordination, and problem-solving required to move a pilot from script to screen.
These on-the-job training opportunities are vital for our apprentices. They are not just learning how to support a set — they are preparing for the day when they will lead crews themselves as producers, department heads, and creative decision-makers, pulling together every moving part of production and guiding projects to their budgetary and programming conclusion.
JellyFish gave our team another powerful reminder that the best classroom is often the set itself.
