Last week, Dakar had the privilege of hosting Ski-ter Jones, one of the creative forces behind Clicka, as part of our Cinema Master Class series. Now, this second bite of the apple gives our apprentices and audience the chance to break the film down from script to screen to distribution, examining the creative decisions, cinematic techniques, and business strategy that helped shape its path to audiences.

Aspiring small town musician Chito (Jay Dee) is determined to make it big. When a clip of him performing one of his songs goes viral, he seizes the opportunity and pushes to carve out a place for himself in the new wave of Mexican-American music…and ultimately gets caught in a game more dangerous than anticipated. In a story of ambition, tradition, and self-discovery, Chito is ultimately forced to confront the choices he’s made in his relentless pursuit of the American Dream.
The Anatomy of a Film is a behind-the-scenes documentary and instructional experience that tracks the complete journey of a motion picture from idea to audience. It explores the who, what, when, where, why, and how of filmmaking by following a project from the earliest stages of script development, through pre-production, production, post-production, theatrical release in 522 theaters, and ultimately to its streaming debut on Netflix.
Designed for aspiring filmmakers, students, apprentices, and film enthusiasts, the project combines documentary storytelling with practical education. Through behind-the-scenes footage, production diaries, interviews, planning materials, call sheets, camera setups, edit timelines, distribution strategy, and release milestones, viewers witness the evolution of a film in real time.
The program reveals:
- Who helped bring the project to life, from writers and producers to cast, crew, editors, marketers, and distributors
- How the film moved through each phase of development, financing, production, and release
- What creative and technical decisions shaped the final product
- Why certain choices were made, from story structure to camera movement to distribution strategy
- Where the film was built, shot, edited, premiered, released theatrically, and positioned for streaming success
At its core, The Anatomy of a Film serves as both a master class and a case study, showing would-be filmmakers that cinema is not just inspiration, but process, teamwork, discipline, and strategy. By illustrating the path from script to screen to streaming, the project demystifies the business and craft of modern filmmaking while inspiring the next generation of creators to see their own stories through.
